Kinja'd!!!

Oh, what a two weeks it has been! From the initial drive from NJ to SC, to my trip to the Tail of the Dragon to Nashville to Alabama then home, it hasn’t stopped making me smile!

Kinja'd!!!

Positives:

Every commute to work is an occasion. It doesn’t feel normal, it feels like an event. From the engine roaring to life in the morning, shaking the car as it sits waiting to roll out, to the second a gap opens up to startle a left laner, it just wants to have fun . Just cruising around, it’s comfortable and relatively quiet, which is great for cruising to work, but when the chance to roll into the throttle presents itself... Oh my.

The interior isn’t nearly as bad as I expected, it’s not the Golf, but that’s fine, because this rattles less. The previous owner added a single din radio with Bluetooth and USB capability, so it has some features. The AC now works, which is a freezer.

On the Dragon, it came to life. I really was worried that it was going to be kind of a letdown, just because I knew I wouldn’t be able to access any of the power. But that simply isn’t true. On both accounts. Every corner(on the first and second runs) I got a little more comfortable, and every straight I could drop the hammer. In a world of 840hp Dodges, 405hp doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but keep in mind, it’s 2 tenths off of the 0-60 of a Hellcat. So every time the hammer dropped, the back end wiggled as it launched up to certain speeds, only to quickly reel it back down again. On top of all that, it feels so connected. Every input is a workout, the clutch is heavy, the shifter is heavy, and the steering requires just a bit more input than either of the cars before it. The first pass, I was laughing harder than I have laughed in a while as I pulled into Deals Gap.

It’s a stupid daily driver, and that makes it amazing.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Negatives:

I now know what hot coffee to the lap feels like, because I had to resort to using a window sill cup holder, due to the one factory cupholder being a sad joke.

This is a truly stupid daily driver, and I love it because of it. Hopefully I can justify a wildly impractical daily for a long time.

That was one of the things I liked best about using a corvette as a daily driver: It made every trip to do even the most mundane errand feel just a little bit special.

I live in South Carolina, so I couldn’t tell you. I can tell you that it wasn’t a concern for me.

the cupholder in these is probably the worst part of the interior

its unbelievably bad. like if it had no cupholder it would be better

(or maybe the seats)

but besides those gripes its so much fun

The seats are fine for daily driving, which is what this is for. I ordered a Travel Buddy from West Coast Corvette, so hopefully this fixes the cup holder issue. Funny enough, the only interior rattle is the cup holder door.

At least you can get 30 mpg so long as you keep your foot out of it (good luck). So it's not TOTALLY impractical.

It will make your day infinitely better, and will break less than a Mini.

I’ve been consistently getting 22, mixed driving with a decent amount of fun pedal when the opportunity arises.

the previous owner of mine must have been a big boy because my seat is in pretty bad shape, its got the collapsed bolster and the fore and aft sliding.

I really should repair it but i’m too tempted to do a different seat altogether so i can actually take corners without ending up in the door

The center of mine is partially collapsed, but I have a long torso, so it actually works out like a Miata foamectomy.

It's not bad for what it is. It has a fairly large tank, too.

Daily drove one for nearly 9 years. These are the greatest cars ever made.

Do you still have the factory Ti exhaust?  It has the most lovely sound...

Kinja'd!!!1

Yup. It’s the first vehicle I’ve ever owned where I have no desire to change the sound. It’s super quiet while puttering around town, then screams above 3k.

In the semi impractical world of sports car dailies, this is supposedly known for being one of the best.

I know what you mean, my RX-8 was a great daily. Even though I never got to open it up on the commute, I still felt like a wolf among the sheep.

I’m super jealous. Love those cars. And in any corvette the feeling of speed is awesome. I had an 87 vette for a few years and even that dog of a power train was fun and felt fast. I also had a first gen CTS-V with the LS6 and that was fast too, but to be able to pair the two up, corvette and the LS6... hot damn! Love those cars, and the LS6 is the best mill for me, love the revs and and sound. Like I said, so jealous. Keep doing the Lords work my friend, drive the wheels off of it.

I have a very soft spot for the C5 as my dad has a C5 convertible. Even with *only* 345hp it’s still plenty fast and the view over those fenders doesn’t get old. Plus pop-up headlights.  I’m pretty sure college-aged me giggled the first time I switched on the headlights when driving it.

The Dragon was *too much* imo. So many turns, so much adrenaline . Foothills parkway was great long sweeping turns and sharp turns mixed. I think the picture you took was on there. It was so pretty.

Pic 1 & 2 are Dragon, 3 & 4 are Foothills. I enjoy all of the turns, elevation changes, dips, scrapes, and banks. The Skyway is better than Foothills, and the Rattler is up there too.

Maybe change the speakers and double din convert it, but other than that, nope.

At some point, I might do the C6 seat conversion, but otherwise I have no complaints about it.

I loved the C7 I rented, it made me understand why v8s are a good thing in life. Definitely want to try out the older cars as I’m sure there is a little more character. Does yours have skip shift? That was pretty infuriating on a manual and I was unsure how long gm has been doing that.

STAHP! JUST STAHP!!! YOU ARE MAKING ME WANT A CORVETTE SO BAD!!!

The C5 is my favorite looking Corvette, and I just love the Z06. I’d love to get one as a DD, but I really need a back seat, or at least access to the trunk/hatch area (which the C5Z06 didn’t have because notch back), so I can take my wife and Ozzy (dog) with me. I’m thinking 6th Gen Camaro V8. We’ll see what happens.

But I do love the car and am glad you are enjoying it and driving the heck out of it!  Keep on keeping on.

The trunk is wide open into behind the back seat. Plenty of room. I could fit my dog(70lb Pit)  comfortably behind the seats in the area back there, and fit a duffle bag or three in the trunk.

My GLI gets about 25 daily driving with decent amounts of fun pedal. I’d gladly swap 3 MPG for double the power going to the correct wheels.
